Under the impetus of the increasing population and vaccine introduction, the quantity of vaccines in Uganda has increased rapidly. The previous small standard cold room at the former site of NMS can no longer meet the vaccine storage needs due to the small volume and low space utilization. However, once any safety problem occurs due to improper vaccine storage, the consequences will be unbearable.

Upon repeated discussion, the Ministry of Health, Uganda determined to reconstruct the NMS Storage for an improved central vaccine storage capacity. Therefore, it requested the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund for help in purchasing and installing larger and more efficient vaccine storage facilities, including 7 large-scale cold rooms (367m³ each), 2 freezer rooms (40m³ each), and 1 cool room (about 1500m³). After several rounds of comprehensive bidding and evaluation, Haier Biomedical was selected to be the supplier of the customized equipment and services.

As a WHO PQS-certified cold chain solution supplier, Haier Biomedical is always committed to providing optimal cold chain storage solutions for all users. Based on the bidding requirements and the field investigation, Haier Biomedical tailored a complete cold storage solution for Uganda. Considering the large floor space, high labor costs, and other associated problems, the cold rooms select PLC to be the control system to automatically control the start/stop of the refrigerating units to ensure scheduled switching between the host and the standby and automatic switching in the case of any failure, thus significantly reducing the running risk. Designed with an efficient refrigeration system, the cold storage can achieve accurate temperature control and guaranteed temperature uniformity and stability. Its LORA remote temperature monitoring device enables the user to understand the temperature and humidity changes in real time. At the same time, featuring functions such as fault self-diagnosis, active protection, sound and light alarm, and SMS early warning, the equipment can have the running status monitored to ensure the secure storage of samples.

Furthermore, Haier Biomedical Cold Rooms have also solved a big problem for the Ugandan Government. The cold rooms used in the past had high energy consumption and a high risk of pollution, while Haier Biomedical Cold Room, through the use of the R448a environmentally friendly refrigerant and green and durable PU insulation boards, has minimal ozone depletion potential and excellent insulation performance. In addition, with the defrosting water overcooling and exhaust air pre-cooling technologies, the room can protect the environment and save energy effectively.

Under the efforts of all the parties involved, Haier Biomedical's Uganda Cold Room Project was successfully delivered at the end of April, becoming the largest national cold room that can safeguard vaccine safety effectively.

As the global vaccine safety solution manufacturer and provider, Haier Biomedical strives to be the most reliable vaccine guardian, to make life better through the intelligent protection of life science.
