Amid the global shift toward sustainable development, the scientific research community is accelerating its transition to green practices. Australia's Westmead Institute for Medical Research has recently joined the Freezer Challenge, a global initiative jointly launched by My Green Lab and the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) to optimize low-temperature storage practices and reduce laboratory energy consumption and carbon emissions. As a key partner, Haier Biomedical is supporting Westmead’s transition with its leading ultra-low temperature (ULT) storage technology, helping the institute steadily advance its green initiatives and contributing to the broader transition toward sustainability in the biomedical industry.

Notably, Haier Biomedical’s BPST series ULT Freezers have previously received My Green Lab ACT certification for their outstanding performance, making the company the only Chinese brand to date to obtain this globally recognized environmental certification. Participation in the Freezer Challenge further demonstrates how these ULT freezers deliver on their sustainability commitments in real-world laboratory settings.

Mobilization for Energy Conservation: A Green Leap in Laboratory Research

The Freezer Challenge is not a symbolic campaign. It is a global effort to drive energy efficiency at the operational level, encouraging laboratories to optimize the efficient use of low-temperature freezers, cold rooms, and other cold-chain equipment, thereby reducing energy consumption. Since its launch, the initiative has helped save more than 108 million kWh of electricity, equivalent to the annual power consumption of over 15,000 households.

At the Westmead Institute, the excellent energy efficiency performance of Haier Biomedical’s self-developed products not only ensure stable, reliable storage for valuable biosamples, but also support the laboratory’s efforts to lower energy consumption, enabling the institute to achieve both research reliability and green operations.

Setting the Energy-Efficiency Benchmark with Core Technology

As a global leader in low-temperature storage solutions, Haier Biomedical has embedded energy efficiency and environmental responsibility at the core of its cold chain storage product design. Its ULT Freezers are widely deployed across research institutions and healthcare facilities worldwide, supporting the transition toward greener laboratories through innovative technology.

Industry-Leading Energy Efficiency, Independently Certified: Certain models (e.g., the UltraEco ULT Freezer) achieve daily power consumption as low as 4.06kWh/day. These units consistently rank No. 1 in the U.S. ENERGY STAR, occupying all Top 8 positions, and outperform the second-ranked brand by a significant margin of 33% in energy efficiency—setting a clear benchmark for ULT storage.
